The 30-year-old golfer displayed remarkable nerve to secure the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the final day, defeating his compatriot in a dramatic playoff following a topsy-turvy final round of play.
Rai nailed a decisive birdie putt from around eight foot to clinch the victory, echoing his only previous tournament triumph at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a playoff win against Fleetwood.

Fleetwood moved a stroke clear with two holes to play after a birdie putt on the sixteenth, but his rival pulled level again on the 17th and then failed to convert a 10-foot birdie putt to win outright on the last hole.
This led to a play-off at the Yas Links course where the eventual winner triumphed to take the title and $1.5 million (£1.13 million) in winnings.
{“Tommy is a phenomenal golfer and an even better individual. To compete alongside him the final two rounds was really special,” stated Rai, the current world No 30. “You’re so concentrated on your game and maintaining focus, it’s difficult to put into words at the present how it is. It is amazing to be holding the trophy.”

The Danish golfer carded six birdies of his own, but his chances of topping the standings were dented by a bogey on the twelfth. English golfer Richard Mansell hit an superb final-round 63 to finish tied for fifth with Australian Daniel Hillier.
