The UK government has introduced the logo and livery for the new national rail body, marking a significant step in its plans to take the railways into public ownership.
The updated branding showcases a patriotic palette to mirror the Union Flag and will be applied on locomotives, at railway stations, and across its online presence.
Interestingly, the logo is the iconic double-arrow design historically used by the national rail network and previously created in the 1960s for British Rail.
The implementation of the new look, which was created internally, is expected to happen in phases.
Passengers are expected to start spotting the freshly-liveried services on the national network from next spring.
During the month of December, the branding will be displayed at key stations, such as Glasgow Central.
The Railways Bill, which will allow the formation of Great British Railways, is currently progressing through the legislative process.
The government has said it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "run by the people, delivering for the people, not for private shareholders."
Great British Railways will consolidate the operation of passenger trains and infrastructure under a single organisation.
The government has stated it will merge 17 separate bodies and "reduce the frustrating red tape and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."
The launch of GBR will also include a comprehensive mobile application, which will enable users to check schedules and reserve journeys free from booking fees.
Accessibility users will also be able to use the app to arrange help.
A number of train companies had earlier been nationalised under the former government, including TPE.
There are currently 7 operating companies already in public control, accounting for about a third of passenger trips.
In the past year, c2c have been nationalised, with more likely to be added in 2026.
"This isn't just a new logo," commented the Transport Secretary. It symbolises "a new railway, leaving behind the issues of the previous system and concentrated completely on providing a reliable public service."
Industry leaders have acknowledged the focus to enhancing the passenger experience.
"We will continue to collaborate with relevant bodies to support a smooth transition to the new system," a representative added.
